Our day in our words...Today we went to the coulee to record the sounds of the coulee within 'sound maps' while visiting our sit spots. However, a simple discovery of a jaw bone with teeth has sparked our curiosity.
In addition, we gathered to observe Orange Shirt Day. Students empathized as they considered how students of residential schools might have felt as well as how we can make sure all students know they matter. Talk & extend...What did you discover in the coulee today?

Our day in our words...Today we spent time reading Shin-chi's Canoe, by Nicola I. Campbell. This book tells the story of a young boy and his sister who are forced to leave their family and attend a Residential School. It is the young boy’s first year away at school, and his sister tries her best to help him. We also watched a short video about Orange Shirt Day and why we recognize the day. Students learned about the word empathy and worked hard to put themselves in Phyllis' shoes. Much conversation was sparked, including:
Talk & extend...Tonight, reflect on our question, how can YOU make another person feel that they matter?
Reminders...
Our day in our words...On the importance of figurative language:
On what makes a pattern, a pattern.... On how we know when we have made one....
On our dance residency with Three Left Feet...
On reading to others...
Talk & extend...Today we thought about descriptive language that authors use to 'paint a picture' for their readers. You identified so many beautiful images while we read A Quiet Place by Douglas Wood. While reading tonight, what beautiful images can you find in your book? Feel free to include them below so we can share them later.

Our day in our words...I think music was pretty cool because we got to make up songs that were made up of nature's sounds. - SCC Today we had our new student teacher, Miss. Reid come. She is from MRU and she comes every Wednesday morning. - JC Today for gym we went outside to play soccer and we threw hula hoops and they landed and then you had to kick the ball into the hula hoop. We had to see how many tries it would take to get into the hoop. - AA In music today we had a new student teacher and he comes every Wednesday morning too. - NR He also started to beat box at the start to introduce himself. - RM Today we were doing the Sword of Knowledge and we switched the rules around. - CG Today we used felt and loose parts to make what makes our group feel peace and most groups added a lake or a pond. - HS Talk & extend...Describe your loose parts scene to your family. What did you use to represent each part of your scene? Why did you choose these pieces?

Talk & extend...We have been working on the math problem the Sword of Knowledge. Explain how you have tried to solve this problem to your families. Reminders...Parents - The Tuscany Way walkway entrance to the school is going to be very busy over the next couple of weeks with trucks hauling equipment, etc. onto the playground site. For safety, we are asking all families to please not use the Tuscany Way walkway entrance. We will be keeping all students off the hill and would ask parents to please walk students down Tuscany Drive to the steps where the children can access the school yard via the bottom of the hill until further notice. This is a major inconvenience but the good news is the playground is almost here!! Thank you! Mrs. Kinsman Just a few reminders for families as our new school year is now fully launched...
