Reminders...Attention parents: We are looking for a few parent volunteers to come in and help create some sets for the Christmas concert. This would involve painting and decorating tri-folds as well as some other set pieces. Please email Jennele Coulson at [email protected] if you are able to help in the next couple of weeks. Our day in our words...
Talk & extend...We have been working a lot on developing our understanding of numbers up to 10 000. We have been reading, writing, representing and comparing them. Below are a list of websites that you can use to practice and explore these concepts at home.
Under the Sea Ring Toss Place Value Hockey Don't forget, you can also play Roll a Rule or Roll a Number with your family! Have fun!

Our day in our words...
Talk & extend...Today we began our research on our plants. We learned many strategies that help us to conduct a Google search. What helpful hints helped you as you did your research? We also were focussed on our 3 comprehension strategies as we researched: ask questions, check for understanding and back up and reread.

Our day in our words...Today in Daily 5, we were working on how you start a sentence, how you tell the differences between two things. We have been working on comparing things and how to introduce them. Then we worked on what differences they had and then their similarities. Then we finished our writing and we wrote our "end". AM Today we started our research on our two plants. CG In Gym, both of our classes played Super Polish Handball. It was super fun. SCC Today, at recess me, CH, and SAS were playing this game where I was an evil school bus driver and they were the students. Neither of them did what I told them to do. They didn't want to so they jumped out the window. BM Talk & Extend...Today we built mathematical structures! This task helped us represent numbers in different ways and reintroduced us to regrouping concepts. Describe the challenge you had and how you determined the value of your second structure.

Our day in our words...Today we had music and we played the recorder and learned a new song CG. Today for daily five we learned about writing differences SAS. I learned in inquiry that a cactus can store water and the roots grow out horizontally to get water EL. I discovered in inquiry that a cactus stores water in its stem and leaves and stores for when it needs it AV. Talk & extend...Discuss the adaptations of cacti. What characteristics dos it have and how do they help a cactus survive in its environment?

Our Day in Our Words...Today we had Beakerhead challenge and I made another guinea pig cage to split up my guinea pigs. BM Today at Beakerhead I thought of how you can get to Jupiter before you die, because it takes a long time to get there and I made rocket boosters and Jupiter hanging under the rocket. PBK During snack we had a short time to eat because we had to go to Beakerhead and I tried to make a catapult table and it didn't really work but it was still okay. KSB I made a car that could not break and won't hurt you if you get in to a car crash. LW Today at daily 5 I did writing where I wrote about the creators of Minecraft. LD The big question for Beakerhead was that there must be a better way, So my group and I thought that there must be a better way to keep dogs safe from running away, but if they do we made a big dog house so that more dogs can stay inside at night and have food. CM Talk & Extend...Tell your parents what you created today for our Beakerhead activity. Do they have any ideas on how to improve or alter it?

Our day in our words...Today at Daily 5, we worked on the “same” in comparison writing. Before we did the “both”. In a couple of days we will probably be doing the “difference”. RLM At the end of the day, we did inquiry and for inquiry we got to pick a flower and then we sketched it. Then we wrote what we wondered. Then we dissected it. We took the flower apart and then we had to try and put it back together and then we taped it down and labeled it. Then we did reading if you finished dissecting. We cleaned up the classroom. AH When I picked my flower, I picked one with a lot of petals. So when I had to open it, I had to take off almost all of the petals. When I dissected it, Mrs.Danchuk opened the middle and I found eggs inside the flower. When we had gym, the other class did not come because they were at the zoo so we had the whole gym to ourselves. VO In gym today, our teachers taught our gym class because Mr.Der was not there. We did some fitness centers like push ups, running cone to cones, lunges, skipping, dips, and burpees. GP At snack we talked about Beakerhead because we have to make something out of cardboard. We have to get boxes. We need to make something imaginative like a car-library truck. In music, we continued our recorders and we got to learn a new song. KSB Talk & extend...Tomorrow we will be participating in the Beakerhead Ingenuity Challenge! This year's theme is "How can we make it better?" Tonight, share the video we watched with your family. You can find it here: http://dominicwilcox.com/videos/ . What are some of the ideas you have for our challenge tomorrow? What could we create that would solve a problem or make a design better?

Reminders... --> Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra tomorrow morning. The buses leave at 9:00 A.M. and will be arriving back at the school around Noon. Please try to have a larger breakfast as lunch will be later than usual. --> We will be missing the Public library book truck on Wednesday. --> Zoo field trip on Wednesday all day. Check back tomorrow for more information on the blog. --> This Friday the whole school will be engaged in the Beakerhead Ingenuity Challenge. This year’s material is cardboard - if you have any cardboard that we can use for projects on this Friday, Nov. 24 please send them in with your child throughout this week. All materials brought in will be shared amongst the students. Thank you! Our Day in Our Words...For music we learned the G note on our recorder. We got introduced to IRIS today and we got to read a few pages of a book and we told them which book we were going to be reading and why we chose it. KSB Today for inquiry we looked at the plants that we took away nutrients, water, air, or sun. We looked at our Kidney beans in a bag to see if they germinated. CH Germination is when the plants first roots get out of the seed. KSB Today we did IRIS and we had to read a book for one and a half minutes. We used iPads instead of computers. It was for our parents to see our reading level as well as our interests. MM At lunch, they added a new piece to the playground. It's on the rope climbing thing and it made it bigger. CM Talk & Extend...Tell your parents what has happened with our plants after we have taken away one of their needs. Have they died? What has changed?
Reminders...--> CPO (Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra) forms are due. Please bring back Monday. --> If you haven't returned your zoo field trip form, those need to come back on Monday. --> Ms.Scott's and Mrs.Danchuk's class have music on Monday's and Wednesday's. Next week we will have music on Thursday instead of Wednesday as we are at the zoo. Please make sure you are bringing your recorder for these days. --> Attached is an invite to a movie night at Eric Harvie School. On Friday, November 24th, we will be showing Aladdin for families in the evening. Please read the attached file if you are interested. --> Our first word work list is coming home today. Our 'check in' will be on November 30. --> No school tomorrow - PD Day. Enjoy your long weekend! --> Huge thanks to all parents who are volunteering with us at the zoo! We appreciate your support!
Our Day in Our Words...Today for Inquiry we had three centers with each teacher. For Ms.Scott's center we put 3 lima bean seeds in a wet paper towel and put them in a ziplock bag. In Mrs.Danchuk's group we split a seed in half. In Ms.Robert's group we make a life cycle of a plant. CH We had inquiry twice today instead of having math. PBK At snack today, Mrs.Danchuk told us that she would be leaving once we leave for winter break to go on a trip with her family across the world. She will be back in July. Lots of people had questions for her. RM With Ms.Scott's group, after we made our lima bean bags, we played Heads up Four Up and lots of people did not guess the right person, but some of them did. Most of the four people were usually it and then when we were finished we did the blog and went home! AH Today we got our Word Work and we went in groups with Ms.Scott or Mrs.Danchuk. JC Today was our first day that we got to sort our words. I am excited to see what words I get next time. SCC Talk & Extend...We were introduced to the lifecycle of a plant today. Share your favourite centre from today. Why was that part your favourite? What did you learn?
Reminders...--> CPO (Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra) field trip forms are due ASAP. --> We are only in search of 1-2 more volunteers for the zoo, Yay! Our Day in Our Words...Today for our break after math, we got to finish some of our lunch because we missed a chunk of out lunch because we had to talk as a big group. Then after snack we did inquiry. For inquiry today, we got to examine plants and do experiment. One plant got no air, no light, no water, and the other one had no nutrients. We will check on them a few days later to see if our hypothesis were correct. AM In math, we played Under the Sea 3. W did expanded and standard notation. The teacher told us a few more ways to do word work and we are getting our first list of words tomorrow. The teacher sent a link a few days ago. KSB Today in music, on the recorder we learned a new note called "A". We tried to play a song called A and B Blues. PBK Today in gym, we did Monkey in the Middle again and we did a minute stork stand. NR Talk & Extend...Talk with your parents and see if you can remember all of the needs of a human, as well as a plant. Can you compare these two? Why do you think will happen to each of our plants?
